This is the most hassle-free way to travel to Potrero Chico, since many of the campgrounds and lodging options are within walking distance of the canyon many people choose to go this route and don’t require a rental car for length of their stay. The best airport to fly into is in the capital of the Northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, Monterrey. (Airport Code: MTY) From there you can be picked up by Climb Potrero Mountain Guides, on the way back to Potrero we can stop at the grocery store for you to buy food, give you a quick tour of town and set you up with lodging. You can also travel from the airport to Potrero by taxi, Uber, Bus, or one of the many shuttle options offered to climbers. Travel from the airport by car takes about an hour. For your safety we recommend that whatever option you take to insist on using the toll road. There are many towns of “Hidalgo” in Mexico, telling a taxi driver that you want to go to the town of Hidalgo is not specific enough, furthermore many drivers will not know of El Potrero Chico. We recommend printing out the following if you plan to go with a taxi service.
